Chambers of First Impressions
Bjorn Schrijen

Story
Cairo, the International Conference of Famous Archaelogists. Quite a uninteresting party, according to Lara Croft. Boring speeches at day, and drunken VIPs at night. And that for five whole days! When finally, the final party of the last night ended, and Lara walked relieved back to her hotel, a strange accident happened. On her way back to the desert, she suddenly felt a strong hand, pushing her towards a hole in the ground. Although she resisted strongly, she fell into the hole, which led to a labyrinth of dangerous chambers, also called the Chambers of First Impressions, by joking archaelogists. During her journey back to the surface, Lara learns that first impressions doesnt always have to be right...

Hints and tips
-If youre up for a little challenge, you can try to find all of the 15 little, blue gems, but for this, some skills are required!
-Got stuck in the room where you are on fire and have to jump in the little pool? Youre not the first one. Try to perform a swan dive EXACTLY on the edge.
-Maybe some jumps in this level look impossible to perform, but they are all possible.
-Finished? Why dont you play again and choose another weapon or corridor?

Known Issues
When the level ends, sometimes the music play, sometimes not. I coulnt help it, unfortunately.

The patch
This level was released in May 2008. In December 2010 I had the opportunity to make a file playable without the editor, the file you just downloaded. I used this opportunity to improve some points of the level. However, how tempting it sometimes was to add things I only learned when working on my second level, I only fixed a few minor issues. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been the same level anymore.

Enhanced things and fixed bugs:
-A title flyby has been added.
-The logo now says "Tomb Raider: Chambers of First Impressions" instead of "Tomb Raider" only.
-I made a custom loadscreen with images of the level.
-A legend (line of text at the beginning of the level) now says which level you are currently playing.
-I modified two of the strings in the script files. You'll see which.
-The gems you can find are now registred as secrets.
-Many of the stretched textures and wafer thin walls are gone (by removing unnessecary slopes or adding columns for example) in this version. Not every of them, unfortunately, since for some I had to change the room unrecognizable, which I decided not to do, and in other rooms there were simply so much not well applied textures, that I am pretty sure I've still missed some.
-The spikes in the weapon rooms now come out the moment you pick up a goodie.
-The pit from which Lara falls down at the start of the level is taller.
-There was quite a long climbing sequence in the level. I divided this into two parts, with a sloped room in between, so that it seems less long.
-Right after this long climb, you enter a large room with fire pits and a long stair. First I added a ceiling at the entrance. Furthermore I added a kind of cove on one side, and made slight alterations to the stairs. The medkit also moved to this cove. This because of the stretched textures.
-In the final room there were two secrets, both in a sarcophagus. They are still on the same spot, but one of them now simply lies on the ground.
-The end: for some reason I forgot to place a camera towards Lara here, so in the released version, the ending was quite odd. However, now the level can properly end... finally.

The original level as released in 2008 can also be played, but it is essentialy the same level, so there is no real need to play it too. I mainly added it to be more complete.

I hope you enjoy playing this level!
